Carsten Rode specializes in pain management and rehabilitation. His experience and focus is dedicated to injury recovery and supporting rehabilitation. He earned a Master’s of Science degree in Acupuncture from Bastyr University and holds a certificate in Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Most conditions he approaches he includes both the Western medical model and Eastern principles. He believes the most important aspect of Eastern medicine is that each patient is treated individually. There is not one course of treatment that fits all. Each of his treatment plans are geared towards the individual’s constitution and presentation of the illness or main complaint.
Many people discover acupuncture in different way and often times as a last resort. While acupuncture is more and more common today, it is not typically the first choice people seek out to treat health problems.
For Carsten Rode, the situation was the same. Struggling with constant shoulder and wrist pain he was attempting to treat these conditions with medication. Unsuccessful, the conversation turned to surgery. Knowing the minimal success rate surgery has in relieving pain, Carsten sought out alternative options. Eventually he found himself in an acupuncture clinic and the pain became a distant memory. Compelled by the results of his care, he decided to reconstruct his career path and become an acupuncturist himself.
Originally from Germany, he grew up in a household of doctors and nurses. He always respected and liked what his family members did to care for others. As a child, he witnessed patients stop and thank his father for helping themselves improve their health. This remained imprinted in Carsten’s mind and lead to his decision to return to school and attend Bastyr University in Seattle.
The intense training was an eye-opener to the possibility of treating ailments with such traditional and new approaches. Every condition provides a new challenge. The biggest reward for him is a patient who smiles a little more after each treatment.
Carsten is a board certified Diplomate of Acupuncture (NCCAOM). His experience ranges from serving patients in multiple clinics as part of the Bastyr teaching curriculum as well as opportunities to treat Seattle Marathon participants. Conditions Carsten has treated include sprains and strains, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, stress, symptoms from diabetes and many more.
He also sought out allopathic opportunities spending time with Medical Doctors at a Group Health Urgent Care and has shadowed an Orthopedist at the ER of the Medizinisches Zentrum Staedte Region Aachen in Germany.
